This Vlogger's Take on the "Power of Makeup" Trend Will Leave You Breathless
Last year, beauty vlogger NikkieTutorials made headlines around the world with one simple video. She chose to shut down her haters and fight back against makeup shaming with "The Power of Makeup," in which she showed off her skills on one side of her face, leaving the other bare. This started a revolution on social media, inspiring women to flaunt their own before and afters with the hashtag #PowerofMakeup. (Our own editors even tried it out!)
Now, beloved Kiwi vlogger Shaaanxo is taking on the challenge. "I feel like makeup is one of those things that . . . people make so many assumptions on those who do love makeup," she shared. Shannon rattled off examples of remarks many cosmetics-lovers have heard before: "'She must be wearing makeup because she's insecure . . . because she's trying to impress somebody . . . because she's ugly.'"
"Makeup is a way to express yourself, it's a way to feel good, it's a way to have fun," she declared. "It's so much more than just makeup." As she continued her tutorial, she chatted about her relationship with cosmetics. The vlogger explained that she started wearing tinted moisturizer at a young age because classmates were making fun of her pink cheeks. Now, however, she feels empowered enough to attend events without applying anything to her skin.
"People will try to shame you for having insecurities," she remarked. "But everyone has insecurities." Shannon pointed out that whether you choose to hide your flaws or not, it's important to love yourself either way. Also, we're sure you aren't surprised, but the finished result is so beautiful, your jaw will drop. Watch to see her transformation and hear her highly relatable relationship with makeup.
